Maasai village visit

An afternoon in a boma, with someone who can actually translate.

A visit to a Maasai homestead near Ngorongoro or Tarangire: how a boma is built, how cattle set the rhythm of the year, and what the beadwork on a woman means. Our guides know these families, which is the difference between a performance and a conversation.

You are welcomed into the enclosure, shown through a house, and invited to whatever the day holds, usually singing, jumping and a look at the beadwork the women make. Questions are welcome in both directions, and the children will have plenty for you.

We agree the visit fee with the village in advance, so nobody is asked for money at the gate. Ask before photographing anyone. One of our guides speaks Maa, so on her trips nothing has to go through a third person.
