Giving back
Training the next women guides
Savanna Soul Safaris was started by one of Tanzania's first women guides, in a job where women guides are still rare. We train and mentor women into that job, and the safaris we run help pay for it.
Why this matters
Women guides are rare in Tanzania. Nora is one of the first.
It is not for lack of women who want the work. Guiding takes a licence, a training course, hours in the parks and someone willing to hand over the keys. That last part is the hardest to come by, and it is the part we can do something about.
Nora has 10 years in the parks and 300+ safaris behind her. Passing that on is the point of the work below.
What we do
Three things, said plainly
Training and mentoring women guides
Nora mentors women who want to guide, towards a licence and a first season of work.
Working with the communities on our routes
We drive the same roads every week and stop in the same towns, and we want the people on those roads to gain from it.
Open about how it is funded
The safaris pay for the training. We have not put a figure on this page, because we will not publish one before it is true. Ask us and we will tell you where the work stands on the day you write.
Want to support the programme directly? Write to us.
Travel with us and be part of it
Book a safari and this work is part of what it pays for. Tell us your dates and we will send a tailored itinerary within 48 hours.
